Lidded Majolica Pharmacy Jar with Devil Mask Handles Pulvis is Latin for powder, and cachecticus refers to cachexia. This majolica apothecary urn is inscribed Pulvis Cachecticus, the Latin name for a medicinal powder intended to treat cachexia, a condition of severe physical wasting.
The hand-painted urn is finished in crackle glaze. The lid is topped with a sculptural rose. The turquoise satyr / devil handles are inspired by Renaissance Italian pharmacy ceramics.
