Continental Europe, c.1900–1930 Standing apx. 26 inches tall, the body is built around a carved wooden form wrapped in hand-worked leather, with inset glass eyes, stitched leather tack, and a black saddle. Large leather-covered horses like this appear throughout Continental Europe during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Horse imagery represented status, travel, sport, and prosperity, often decorating country houses, hunting lodges, or equestrian clubs. Examples this size are much less common and have a dramatically different presence in a room.
