Archive Notes

Originally published in 1963, Ghost Hunter was the book that launched Holzer's career and helped bring paranormal investigation into American popular culture. Over the decades he would write more than 140 books on ghosts, witchcraft and psychic phenomena, becoming one of the most recognizable names in twentieth-century paranormal literature. You can find other examples in the Archive Library.

This paperback collects Holzer's accounts of alleged hauntings and psychic encounters, including the Bank Street ghost, the haunted Greenwich Village and Central Park West, Alexander Hamilton's ghost, a murdered financier supposedly communicating from beyond the grave.

Holzer later became closely associated with one of America's most notorious alleged hauntings, the Amityville case.
